Abstract

This article seeks to explain the transformation of ethnic dissent and community disagreement at different times in the borders of San Luis Colotlán, Jalisco, during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. This military and border district presents various significant elements for the analysis of an overlooked subject in Mexican colonial historiography: the changing quality of native resistance expressions in liminal and frontier zones and the ideological transformation of patterns for questioning colonial rule.
